View Full Version : Small Guilds, Big Raids

I couldn't find a thread that discussed this (maybe there is one and I'm too blind to see it), but how do people feel about being in a small guild and knowing that once you and yours get to that [insert high level], you won't have enough to fill in the spaces for that raid on whatever dungeon you want to go to.
I love my small guild and the people in it, wouldn't leave it, but it does worry me about being too small for those high end dungeons. And while PuGs could be an option for some of it I suppose, I like the bonding that happens when you do instances with the same people.
Is there something for this situation that's already out there, such as a channel or a huge alliance of guilds? And if not, any guild out there wanna align with us? :D

Not sure about other threads. Sounds like on the Horde side, the Nether Counsel was set up for this kind of thing.
If not, or if you were to create an alliance of guilds for the endgame stuff, I'd be careful of how you proceed. Those kinds of alliances too often result in guilds trying to take members from each other or large guilds trying to absorb smaller ones. I'm not saying it can't be done, I just haven't seen it work well yet.
I too like the feel of a small guild. The idea that I actually know the people on line at any given time is neat. When the Tears of Elune grew so rapidly (nearly doubling in size over night) it freaked a lot of us out. Half the people on line now are people I don't know. We're working through it though.
Anyway, check with that Nether Counsel thing.

That is exactly what the Nether Council was established for.

This exact question is what made Clan of the Crimson Hand begin to question it's purpose and look at how to carry on. We examined several options, and decided that our situation warranted a merger. We were lucky enough to find the Pentaverate which seemed to be in line with our original charter. The merge was fairly smooth, and we were given a warm welcome.
While this merge will only put us at 20 man raid capable in the not so distant future, it was a good move IMO. All of the people I enjoyed interacting with are still there, and quite a few new people who I have enjoyed interacting with over the last couple of days are now near.

Like Snowfeather mentioned, the Nether Council was founded to make up for our small numbers.
Follow the link for some info about it.

The Nether Council was formaly founded when we needed to plan a mass Horde Defense agains the Alliance foot race some time ago (was it 3-4 months?) and so far it hasfunctioned admirably for all aspects of the game and specialy RP events. We hold meetings once a week.
There is no single leader in the Nether Council, all Guild Masters have equal leadership rank (council members) and guildmates are equal (Nether Circle members). Honor rank or level height is not acknowledge within the Nether Council as no real skill is necesary to accomplish it.
We dont compete with each other for members since we all work as one Guild when needed and that sort of action can cause expulsion (we have never had to exercise this). Basicaly if a Guild is into that sort of behaviour then it doesnt belong there in the first place since it doesnt follow the spirit of the union.
We have a procedure that we enforce when admitting members in order to avoid bad guilds. If you are interested in joining us then attend one of our meetings and request an audience. We are currently meeting every Saturday at 8pm (realm time) within the Ring of valor in Orgrimmar.

Just wanna mention and make a slight correction for the history of the council. It was actually founded about two or three weeks prior to the alliance foot-race, at that time I dont think we had a name for it and it was organized a bit differently (at the time I just was the leader, of course listening to other people but yeah) but then I got involved in the footrace, afterwards I heard the people involved in it talking about something very similar to what I had already set up so..."hey! I've already got something like that..."
Anyway, dont know why I wanted to give a little history lesson :) seems so long ago now...better to write down how things happened before I forget completely :P

I'd like to think I'm an easily accessible person to contact about the Nether Council. I haven't been as active with it as I'd like, mainly due to responsibilities on Saturdays. We're moving the meetings to Sunday nights so that more of our member guilds can attend as the Saturday meetings tended to interfere with too many plans.

That would be great if it was on a different day .. even better if it was every other week or once a month.
I want to breathe some life into it, but it seems like it's just a small group of people who think it's a great idea in theory, but when it comes to actually having to work on it things fall short.
I feel awful about having to nix my participation last weekend - there were some unforseen guild issues that came up that needed to be immediately addressed. Since then, I've kind of been caught up in other things in game and I have admittedly been reluctant to work on things with the council.. I will change that.
I do want the Council to succeed, but honestly, this board gets more input about the NC than the actual board that was set up for it.
Lastly - I have news of an "event" and I want to invite those Horde guilds who would like to be involved. If you are one of them..
Please let me know via here or a letter/whisper in game and I will give you the details.

Yes, I remember that when we got together to plan the foot race defense you had mentioned that you had also started an alliance of Guilds and was surprised that there was nother similar Guild Alliance. What I think that happened afterwards is that both Alliances merged into one after the Foot Race and then you begun to organise the weekly meetings. After one or two weeks we decided to give a proper name to our "Guild Alliance" (since we hated the word Alliance) but could not decide on one that would fit.

On the following days we gave a better structure to our Alliance by creating to channels (one for leaders, the other for everyone else) and on the following meeting I mentioned that the Guild Leader channel works like a council as we all discussed things as equals with mutual respect for each other and that it should be called the Nether Council with all other Guild mates known as The Nether Circle.

It was agreed by everyone and later we became popularly known as just the Nether Council

So I believe the Nether Council as we know it today was created on the eve of the Foot race when two separate Horde RP Unions merged together (and other individual Guilds) to combat the Alliance and the rest is history.
EdiT: I apologize for the multi posts to the reply but I have been having a lot of posting problems while trying to post the entire reply at once. So far this has been the only way to reply, Mortica has already been informed of the problem.

Yup thats essentially what happened, I just wanted to fill in the gaps pre-footrace because not as many guilds knew about it actually (about 3-4 maybe? I guess it was Fires of Thrall, Decimate, Hammer of the Warchief, Clan Bloodclaw, Amangur Empire maybe and possibly one Im forgetting)
