View Full Version : [WoW Bug] Losing Ground

So WoW seems to have this problem with my video card that only surfaces on the odd occasion. It becomes immediately noticable when it begins to happen, as the framerate shoots down to around 5-7FPS, things get very choppy.

The next step of the odd problem is when items in the game world start disappearing. For instance, bridges, trees, rocks, fires, people...

The next step of the problem, and ultimately what makes it bearable (since it's oddly cool) is when the ground disappears, and the FPS then drops down to around 1. But it gives this kinda, spacey, fascinating appeal...

The problem? According to Blizzard it's in my Video Card... and yet, I can play Oblivion on my PC without any such glitches.

Most likely, the problem -is- your video card. Make sure you have updated your drivers for it.

It might also help to avoid eating that hay with the rust colored fungus..

Check your computer for extraneous processes that may have attached themselves. Your framerate can drop drastically when something else starts eating your RAM.

But the problem is, in my mind at least, that a game like Oblivion does not cause such issues or massive framerate drops. It's only WoW. I've got the latest drivers and everything.

Though I am not crossing it out as a Video Card problem, as if I were to ALT+TAB out of WoW when it goes into that state, my desktop will be at 800x600 screen resolution and 16 colors.

If you can play Oblivion, why the hell are you running WoW in 800x600?

I'm not playing WoW in 800x600. I'm playing WoW in 1280x960. The pictures are 800x600 due to Photobucket size constraints. And my desktop goes 800x600 and only 16 colors only when it glitches up in WoW.

This happens to me also, and my card has 1 gig of video ram :) It never happens to my wife, who has a technically 'lesser' card. (Mine is the FX7950 GX2). What I have discovered is that it *does* happen in other games, just not as often. And, if I reboot my machine prior to playing Warcraft, it almost never happens. It will still sometimes happen if I do *lots* of zoning into big areas. Frankly, I think it's a memory leak of some kind, possibly in the drivers, possibly in the games themselves. I of course have the most recent drivers at all times.

Do the reboot before starting WoW, though, and you'll probably have very little occurrence of this.

Yikes, I thought I was the only one... I hate when this happens.
