For those of you interested in the Warcraft novels, I heavilly suggest this one. It's a great background for what to expect from the expansion, and, not only does it expand on the history of the orcs, but the draenei and the Burning Legion as well.
The only spoiler I'll give is that the orcs were not always green-skinned...

Hulk smash?
And given Blizzard's sense of humor I wouldn't discount it being an overt homage...

Well, Metzen wrote this one I believe.. I bought all six.. lost two.. (under the monster that is my bed somewhere).. Read War of the Ancients and Day of the Dragon, all by the one author, Knapp. They're pretty good, actually.. a great way to expand upon lore.

No, this one was done by Christina... er, whatever her last name is, the one who also did Lord of the Clans. The only one Metzen's written is Of Blood and Honor, which is the story of Tirion Fordring.

I loved Of Blood and Honor. Bought it online one night before I went to sleep, but then I decided to read a few pages first. Big mistake. I ended up not being able to sleep till I read the whole thing.

I was looking for info/reviews on this book but had a hard time finding any.
My hope was that despite whatever course Blizzard had taken with Warcraft, they would still be able to back it up with quality lore not just cliche stuff made to justify the game play.
This novel is that bit of hope that despite whatever happens in WoW, Warcraft lore would still be good enough to enrich a future non MMOG game and other non Video game stories.

It's taken mostly from the perspective from Durotan Frostwolf, Thrall's father, so there's a lot of familiarity and new stuff as well.
I picked it up along with the new Warcraft Archive book.

Ah!! God damn it, you sold me!
I will buy the book and read it. I do happen to like prequel stories (star wars not included)
I can't believe how much money I have blown on geeky junk in the last couple of months.
By this years end I will be forced to build a cardboard home on the street from the toy boxes and use the books to make a bed 8O

I got it the other day, and it was a fast read. Good book, because it left me wanting more. As most WoW books seem to do

All I know is the creative department is rather protective of the lore of Warcraft, especially Metzen, since its his baby basically. The lore inside WoW stays consistant, but I can understand its tough with such a large game and with so many things going on at once.
But Rise of the Horde was an excellent read, especially with it surrounding Durotan Frostwolf and with those little tid bits in the beginning of each chapter written by Thrall, which from what I've heard, may be been helped by Metzen either directly or not, but that could be rumor for all I know *shrug*
