Well this has come up, so I figured I'd ask for your thoughts on the subject...
Gestation periods.
How long would you think it takes for each race to have a baby?
I would think the Night elves take a little longer than say Humans, and Orcs maybe take less time than Humans, due to life span?
Your thoughts?

I say nine months flat for all of em.

I would think that orcs would be similar to humans..other aspects of the two races are actually very similar.
Trolls, I actually would think to be quicker..maybe 7 months or so. Due to eons of constant warfare, cannibalism, and other Fun Things™, I could see them "evolving" to have a shorter gestation period to help pop the babies out quicker to help them refill their population.
Night elves..I really have no opinion on. Elves in D&D were said to have a two-year gestation period, but apparantly an article in Dragon magazine for the 3E stated 1 year. So, you can use their numbers if wanted, and they wouldn't be completely made-up.
If a 1-year period is established for Night Elves, I'd say the Blood Elves would be a bit shorter..perhaps 10-11 months, as they're not immortal so evolution would help to "hurry up" the process.
A cow's gestation period is 9 months, so I'd correlate that to a similarity in the Tauren.
Gnomes don't have babies. They reproduce by turning into coccoons for three weeks, and then when they come out, there's two of them. Unnatural bastards.
Dwarves I would think would be similar to elves, since they're another of the "not in a hurry" races. A year would be my best estimate.
Of course, this is all my opinion. ;)

We reproduce... Though cloning would save the time of having to wait... hmm Oh! what were talking about? Oh yeah Gestation times it actually take 312 day for guestation. To the day... No more, no less... We gnomes are prompt.

Thank you

Humans: Nine Months
Dwarves: Fourteen Months
Gnomes: Nine Months
Night Elves: Possibly Years
Drain-y: Eleven Months
Orcs: Nine Months
Troll: Three-Four Months
Tauren: Nine-Ten Months
Undead (If Capable): Nine Months
Blood Elf: Nine Months
Just my general ideas.

I agree with Zasein. Nine months for all of them makes sense to me.

I do believe that's a bit of fanciful creativity. I like it. Most of these responses are entirely too anthropomorphic. Of course, so are these races.

Now thing is, how long is that in game time?
Ellenia

Well, game time seems to mimic real time..i.e. 2 years of the game means two years have passed...even though nothing actually ever happens in the game to reflect the passing of time. I guess the only way we'll ever know for certain will be after the expansion and they update the "official" WoW timeline with the amount of time between the beginning of WoW and the dark portal re-opening.

Havent you seen that WoW video that has a like a 100+ of them in Ironforge?
The waves of pink hair made them look like swarms of Zerglings.

Officially, it's been one year.

The best way to have a baby in WoW is through time displacement.

I agree. At least for the Draenei, they should soo let them be egg layers. So the question would be, "how long do the Draenei need to sit on thier eggs"

My Draenai C Yahabibi is gonna be so hot, eggs are gonna be the last thing you'll want her to sit on.

Hmm .. My Khrosus will need to see that for himself.

Dreanai will always be Eredar to me and if I ever do come back I would make it my mission in life to gank every single one of them that I come accross

You forgot that Dwarves don't mate. They just pop out of rocks.
Gimli said so.

I think that popping out of rocks only applied to the Earthen. Once the Earthen became 'fleshy' they discovered other ways..

Dwarves are Earthen!
Brakogar

Dwarves are evolved Earthen.
One is made of flesh the other of stone so there is a difference even if they have equal origins.

A cow's gestation period is 9 months, so I'd correlate that to a similarity in the Tauren.
I'm insulted.
That's the equivilant of saying that because them ugly humans remind me of a dog that we should compare their gestation period to a dog's.
Harumph!
