I said I would try sketching again and I did.. over lunch today with a mechanical pencil and an eraser.. on plain old 8 1/2 by 11 photocopy paper.
I present Nouri... ( very sloppy and out of practice )

And I do like it. It's much better than I can do myself. Eyes are awfully dark.
Jesus on heroin, maybe?

Nah, thats scanner-itis. I just could be bothered to rescan it with a lower contrast.
He's backlit. Thats my story..

rule #1 NO MACHINICAL PENCILS!!! >.<
if u had used a REAL PENCIL *calms back down*....then you could have used your figure to blend in those shaded area's like his arms to give it that artistic edge!
very good indeed....wish i had talent to do humans, my work is only great when it involves landscapes and animals :(

Ya, I hear you.
Back in the day I used 2H and B pencils for sketching. This was a spurr of the moment thing so its not what I usually do.
Ill work on some more serious stuff in time. I've caught the bug again! :D

Woah woah woah...
Mechanical pencils are fine.
ALSO..
Don't use your fingers to shade. Ever. The oil in your skin merges with the graphite, making it impossible to both control, and erase. To smudge, use another piece of paper, or a stump, or a smudge stick. Smudge sticks are just tightly rolled up pieces of paper that look like pencils. GAWD I need to get some...
All of the drawings I do in pencil begin with a mechanical pencil, to get the outline down. Even most of my shading uses a mechanical pencil. They're not so bad, but t get more values, it does help to use real pencils.
