The Order of the Lotus, named in honour of the flower of prophecy, comprises of guilds and individuals who labour under the suspicion that the world of Azeroth is on the brink of radical geological alteration. They are supported and led by a sect of druids known as the Dath'anari, and it is their affinity to the natural world, as well as meticulous observation, that has led them to believe the subterranean realm stirs with malevolent intent. Hoping for the best, they have begun preparations for the worst.
History
The gargantuan roots of Ashenvale's trees, buried deep below the surface of the world in earth and rock, recognised an increase in temperature in subterranean wells and stone. Troubled by their sensations, the forest called the Dath'anari into service. Many millennia spent beneath the canopy of Ashenvale Forest have permitted communion between woodland and druid. A sharing of wisdom and experience initially alerted the Dath'anari to the sense of foreboding pervading the airs of the ancient forest, and recognising the signs in the course of a few days, they investigated further.
Aiyan Riverdawn seems to be leading them in this endeavour, dispatching his fellow druids to farflung corners of the globe to ascertain similar findings. In addition to the observations of temperature, the druids were stunned to find increased concentrations of metamorphic rock in soil samples. In some locations, this had even given rise to bizarre mutations of plant life.
The Dath'anari spent the next few weeks researching, poring over texts in half a dozen libraries and tongues, deliberating over potential causes or triggers for such an abnormality to nature. While they debated and speculated, Aiyan came to the decision that the peoples of Azeroth were to be made known of these observations. At the time, all eyes were turned to Icecrown Citadel, and being familiar with the bureaucracy and formality of Alliance governments, he knew that speaking with his leaders would cost time - a resource that was proving more and more valuable as the investigations continued.
What's more, Aiyan knew that if this knowledge was to be taken to Stormwind, it would most certainly never be permitted to reach the gates of Orgrimmar. A preserver of life in all its forms, first and foremost, he did not wish for such an end. Instead, he secretly addressed key members of guilds across the Horde and the Alliance, calling them together for a meeting to discuss what could be done to prepare for the drastic alterations to Azeroth's surface. In truth, very little could be done to prevent what they feared would come to pass. Instead, acting in faith of the druid's words, the guilds and adventurers came together beneath the single banner of the Lotus, agreeing to see past inter-faction feuds to achieve a greater goal for the good of Azeroth.
