Don't know if this board is capable of sub-forums, but here's the idea (if it's not capable of subforums, how about a forum just titled "TNG Bios?" or something like that?):

In either the Story forum, or in the regular TN forum, there would be a stickied folder labeled "Character Bio's" or Character Biography's" or something like that. When you open that folder, it opens up to a list of threads, each thread would be titled with a character's name. The reason why they'd each be able to submit their own thread is so they don't get lost in the long shuffle of people adding their bio's and other people commenting on them, saving the readers from having to sift through all that to find a particular bio.

So, you'd have, for example:

+Nether Legends
that would open up into
+stickied Bio forum
+submitted story
+submitted story, etc.

The stickied bio forum would open up to
+Bio forum..and have the suggest form to fill out on their particular characters, followed by threads in that subforum each titled with characters, example
+Kurohane
+Zusteakai
+Mortica
etc. People could put a link with their siggy pointing people back to that thread so if we wanted to look them up.

Replies to a particular thread could be like, say there's a thread that is titled "Lovely", I go to it and I reply IN-CHARACTER as Danlily such as:

"Oh that Lovely, pitty she's a paladin. She really should have been on our side, ya know" Danlily snaps her gum and checks her nails. "She was a real hoot and so much fun. I wish she'd come back and play with Clys and I." Danlily pouts dramtically.

Out of character responses would be deleted. We don't want ooc responses to incite flaming or stuff. People can tell each other how they feel about their characters privately in PM's. But publicly, when people's characters can give feedback on how other people's characaters are reflecting in their lives, well, it's wildly popular on another board in another game. And it gives inspiration for people to get their stories intertwined with other people's stories.

Just a suggestion, but one I think would be a lot of fun whether as a sub-forum or a forum of it's own, because I, for one, would love to see bio's on people's characters, what angle they are coming at, how they see their characters, their quirks and habits and such.

Example of a bio form they could copy and paste into their own personal threads and fill out (I'm disabling the html/BBCode for this particular post so they can see the code of what they'd be pasting):

It's really either just adding a sub-forum, which I know some boards are capable of, or for simplicity, just adding a new forum to the Nether Legends.

I think we're mature enough here to allow OOC and IC responses. Why not just make it bracketing required, like everything else?

And Ker, I believe he means how much html/BBCode you'd have to put in for a post like that. Unless you took the cheezy way out like I intend to, and copy/paste Danlily's post.

Which is precisely why I posted it to make it easy for others to copy/paste.

And I think the bracketted rule for ooc comments on a bio's thread is a great idea.

I'll think about it.

I'd rather people use the character bios section http://tn.yzeens.com/modules.php?name=Characters for such things, but then you wouldn't be able to do the feedback idea unless I coded it in (which isn't too hard to do).

Out of curiousity, would people use the bios section more if it was changed? And what would need to change?

I forgot you even had that section, and found Danlily there still listed as level 30 and a member of the Grim. I don't think people use much of the site other than the forum part. I think they like the streamline of going to one page and it's all there at the forums. A lot of people have the forum itself bookmarked and skip the main page entirely rather than have to go through two pages to get to the forums for a quick scan when on breaks at work.

*shrug* I can only speak for myself, but I ignore all the buttons at the top and only concentrate on the forums because I don't have time to scan everything for new stuff and new character listings that might be there, or new guilds listed in that part of the site. When something is new on the forums, it's right there lit up so I get a quick update or a quick read and comment and then I'm back in-game.

I am a bit confused by the character module, and not sure what I am doing wrong. 1) It won't let me type anything in the description box (using firefox) and 2) I have everything set to public but when I try to view it says information not public or something. Something I am doing wrong? And click on the link under my sig to see what I mean when I try and link to my bio.

Not sure why you couldn't use Firefox.. I'll give it a try later.

To link to your bio, just use

http://tn.yzeens.com/modules.php?name=Characters&file=view&cid=397

So I started using the character bio that can be access at the button at the top of the page, but in creating your characters, there is no choice in the drop-down for bloodelf and draenei. Can we get them added? Granted we haven't actually created those characters yet, but some of us are already writing about them in "Legends of the Burning Crusade" forum, and I know most who are writing and planning have already reserved the names of their planned characters to be sure they get them.

So can we at least get drop-downs for blood elf and draenei at the Characters part of this board...puweeeeeze?

i added draenei and blood elf to the drop downs.

I have a little bit of time today..let me look at your suggestion for putting these into the forums again...

edit, ok...you have your new forum... have at it :)
