Thanks guys! That brings us to a grand total of three server first titles (Naxx, OS, and Algalon). Hopefully we will be adding a few more under our belt soon. :)

We stealthily ninja'd Akuje's druid this past weekend, and on his second First Legion raid ever, he earned his Celestial Defender title and his first Real First Achievement!
We've got three as a guild - Realm First Nax, Realm First Sarth, Realm First Algalon.
We also have Realm First to 80 Rogue and Human, Paladin, and Draenei roaming our guild ranks ;p (Fynne, Jilliane, Heidenreich)

Congratulations to all you modest First Legion out there! That fight is a hard one, for sure. When I first saw the event in Dalaran that followed, I was so confused =D

Grats anyway.

You should thank them for how modest they are. Clearly you don't remember the days of RSA!

Wait, I'm confused. When did this happen?
I could have sworn I saw the algalon defeated event in dalaran a week or two ago - and it had to be on TN, because it's the only server where I have characters that can even reach dalaran.

The event plays for both the 10 man and 25-man turn-in, but only the 25-man kill awards the realm first achievement.

I faction transferred and all I got was this stupid achievement.
I love the Algalon fight, just the visual assault makes it one of the best in the game IMO.

D'oh, right. *facepalms* Somehow I always forget there are 25 man versions of things.

Congrats first legion
My buddy Urbles quit raiding with you guys two weeks ago, we were lolling at him when the achievement spam rolled by. My other friend Majawh was there though. You should get him to talk in vent... it's really hot. He's a young supple lad.
Anyway, congrats douchers!

First, super-grats to FL--you guys put an ass-ton of work and line-up frustration into that fight, from what I can tell--you deserve it.
Second, YES to the Algalon fight being super fucking awesome. A few of us Grim took our first look at it this past Monday and holy hell, the visuals are AMAZING.

I wouldn't want you to get the wrong idea -- it's just that I haven't played for 3 months and thought it would be a little coattailsy to include myself with their recent success.
...even if it was totally my speech that gave them the renewed cajones to sack it out for the ride to victory. ;)

God, you must have not run heroic Trial yet... seesh, Levitate makes it so the Kobolds can't set you on fire, duh!

Nope, only 10 man under my belt so far. Would have hit 25 man yesterday if my raid slot wasn't filled : /
Lisbet

during northrend beasts, if you levitate the ranged dps and the fireballs go out, you get hit, but no fire lands on the ground (See: no ground to land on), thus, no deaths to standing in fire ;p
I bet it'd work in VoA too.
Swerto
10-15-2009, 01:11 PM
Why bother? It's unbelievably easy to stay out of the fire in VoA, it doesn't even hurt you until one second in.

In the heroic version of Trial, the fire applies a NASTY DoT, so it's much easier just to levitate and avoid the fire all together. Remember that, so when you get in, you can go "I think our priests should levitate us so we dont get the fire dot" and people will go "SWERTO! That's genius! We love you!" And you will forever have a raid slot.

I'm picturing how annoying it'd be to levitate all the ranged. Whoa.
WTB mass levitate

You can pretty much be assured(unless I missed a Blizz post somewhere) that the levitation trick is an exploit as much as, say, aggroing Gluth adds from the ledge so that they run to the wall and stand there. Creative use of game mechanics? Yes. Completely avoiding on aspect of the encounter that it is expected will be dealt with? Also yes.
On topic - Well done, folks. Only just now getting to Algalon myself, but it looks like a cool fight(and fairly brutal).

Congratulations First Legion, seems like a thoroughly challenging fight!
Thanks everyone.
In the grand scheme of things, Algalon is one of those fights that annoyed me more than anything. Like the original Sartharion with the red shit that spawns under you for insta-death, Algalon uses the same red color and much of the time I can hardly see it with the black background and the massive amount of visual effects going on. I think there are three, maybe four things that spawn or move or do whatever they want and insta-gib you, and it is so stressful when also focusing on healing the raid.
For me personally, I enjoyed 10man pre-nerf Firefighter (Mimiron hard-mode) the most of all the fights I have completed in WotLK. That too was a super hard encounter, but it had much less of the stress and drama while we were learning and completing it, so the whole thing stands out for me as one of the best.

If you're going to start accusing us of using exploits, I suggest you quote the blizzard post stating as much. Using Levitate is well documented in many websites as a good strat to use and I have yet to see anyone say it is an exploit that Blizzard is taking action against.

While I doubt that Blizzard has made a massive (or any) stand against it, I think it would be fair to assume that it isn't the way they imagined the fight going. Forcing the use of a non-combat skill offered by only one class runs against the grain of their other encounter designs for Wrath similar to how you no longer see mage tanks around their one skill.
Granted, there is still the need for the two priests in Naxx 25, but I think that was more to keep the flavour of the original fights as opposed to any newer design philosophy.

On the contrary, none of those websites are Blizzard saying "this creative use of mechanics is a-okay," though I wouldn't get your back up about it--what he was saying is that you shouldn't be surprised if Blizzard finds a way to patch/hotfix it (if they even fucking care about ToGC at this point--3.2 was an annoyingly stop-gap patch and they don't seem to give two shits about it), not that you guys are hacks for using it.
Also, agreed on the Firefighter-10, although it was one of those fights where "bring the player, not the class" was certainly not the message I was getting--it was pretty much impossible for us until we got a tree druid to help healing in place of holy priest, and from what I hear that's a common problem--no win without the tree.
