Wintergrasp

* To provide players with a more transparent notification of when Wintergrasp battles occur, as well as better control zone population and stability, several changes have been made.

* Players now have the option to queue for Wintergrasp from a Wintergrasp Battlemaster in any capital city or by simply entering the Wintergrasp zone.

* Queuing will begin 15 minutes before each battle. If chosen, you will automatically be teleported to the zone. Any players in the zone who have not been chosen from the queue will be teleported out when the battle begins.

* The queue system remains active for the entire battle. As soon as a player leaves, a new one will be chosen from the queue.

* Trying to enter Wintergrasp during an active battle for which you have not been chosen will teleport you out. Please note that, as you are now able to fly over Wintergrasp, you will only be teleported out if you try to land and join the battle.

* Level 80 players get higher priority in the queue than lower level players. In addition, a random selection of queued players will be taken from both the Battlemasters and the zone itself.

* The queue will accept up to 100 players from each faction, resulting in a maximum battle of 200 players at a time.

I believe this is the worst answer to the WG population problem.

Ever.

lolwut.

Post edited for further rant:

If they wanted Wintergrasp to work that way, they should have just made it instanced to begin with. Is this their answer to the lag? 'Cause it's lame.

Honesly, don't see this swinging the battle much...usually when Alliance is on D, we have 'bout one full raid...and still have tenacity 4ish...which means that Horde *easily* double our numbers, and even with the 100 cap, we're still roflstomped.

So first they make quests from daily to weekly. Fair enough. I play Wintergrasp for fun anyway.

And then they introduce this.

It's almost like they don't actually want us playing in Wintergrasp.

I don't quite understand how queuing works. So the queue starts 15 minutes before the battle, does that mean you can only queue for Wintergrasp 15 minutes before it, or it starts actively selecting players for it in that period?

You can't enter an active Wintergrasp without being queued? So basically, no flying into Wintergrasp while a match is in progress. Which means you can only really go in where they intend you to.

The whole mechanic is just really full of holes.

100 people is 2 1/2 raid groups. This will only affect TN occaisionally.

Plus...not having to listen to 20 naked taurens train whistling? Yes please.

I'm usually at the walls in a siege engine at about the 3 minute mark. All you have to do is kill 1 tower cannon alone to get First Lieutenant. You should try it.

I don't think they have any idea what they're doing with WG, or what people are really looking for when they ask for world PvP.

But hey, I don't care what they do with WG either.

I think the flaws in their planning will show rather quickly on the PTR. I also think that they are going to need to come up with a solution that promises players locked out of one wintergrasp entrance to the next.

I do wonder how we could get consistent and reliable figures for how many people are in WG during peak times. I have a feeling that it goes over 100 per side more often than Villy believes.

More objective based games. Less zurg win style games?

A way to make WG worth doing? Maybe make it so it never ends, it's a constantly fought over objective, not a once every two hour battleground that's impossible to fight at.

This way people will pop in when they can, fight while they can, and leave when they feel like it. If it's a constantly running battleground with no end, and the keep constantly switching hands then maybe people would be more inclined to defend.

Let me guess, they transformed Wintergrasp, which is the closest WoW has to RvR and is fun due to randomness and it's 'sandbox'-ness, and turn it into another BATTLEGROUNDS?

Really, WTF?

Personally I think the way it was was just fine, except for the lag and the exploiting, but those could be fixed in other ways.

Overall, it might be fine for TN due to the general lack of pvp compared to pve guilds and interest... but other servers? There will be riots at Blizzard HQ within a few days after going live, I'm sure.

Something tells me you woulda really liked Dark Age of Camelot pre-Trials of Atlantis.

Not only that, I was about 10 seconds behind the first vehicles being built in the last WG I participated in, and I was able to build siege engines at that time. Farming the alliance NPCs at the central bridge. Kill the two at the bridge, kill the two closer to the keep, by the time you're back at the bridge they've respawned.
In about eight minutes of game time, I'd taken down the front wall while everyone else was still wasting vehicle spots with catapults.

We need to go onto the PTR and... Make GM tickets, Bug Reports, something like that.
