I'm gonna try to do something a bit different. I am a very avid video game player, and always have been since I was a kid. So there's some things in video games that annoy me like pet peeves more than anything else. So I'll rant about some things and see if people agree.
I'll start with a game I kinda hate, at least playing online; Call of Duty: World at War. The multiplayer part of it online (I'm a very competitive person, which is why I love PvP in WoW) is very lacking compared to Call of Duty 4, especially Free for All...but that's not what I'm getting into.
Instead, I'm talking about this; trying to force people to download a map pack that costs money.
The game has a map pack of three or four maps that costs approximately $10, which is 800 Microsoft Points. 10 dollars for a few extra maps? No thanks.
However, here's where it gets sneaky...and greedy.
In Call of Duty 4, it had a map pack that you could buy as well. However, if you don't have the map pack, the game won't put the new maps in the playlist rotation. Meaning, simply, you won't play the new maps, and you won't have any issues.
World at War? It puts all the new maps in ALL of the playlists, while having a separate playlist for people who have the map pack. If you don't happen to have the maps when they pop up in the rotation, the game will kick you out of the game room, and CONVENIENTLY pop up a window where you can download the map pack.
Call of Duty 4 didn't try to shove map packs down people's throats. Why does World at War? Treyarch is a lame company, is why.
The only way to avoid getting kicked because you don't have the map pack is to veto the map...and even then, that's no guarantee, because it could bring up another new map in the rotation, and you will be kicked out of the game, or forced to leave. Very annoying when you find a group of people you enjoy playing with while doing Free for All.
They COULD of fixed it so that it doesn't try to force you to download the map pack to avoid this inconvenience...however, that would cut into their money! Treyarch can't have that!
"Then why don't you just play CoD4 instead of WaW, Glass?" Because I've played CoD4 back and forth, and I'm just kinda bored with it at the moment, Saving up my energy for Modern Warfare 2. However, this is absolutely no replacement.
The World at War community already seems very aggressive and angry, and this seems to only fuel it. It's an annoyance that they could fix, but, as I said, they won't. They want to try to force people to download the map pack so they make money.
Go to hell, Treyarch. ;/
I might make additional rants from time to time if this gets a good feedback. I'm not sure how many of you play console games and such...I haven't met that many who do in WoW, but if you have any feedback, please, don't hesitate. =D
