just curious how everyone else was planning on handling this stickiness?

missing, presumed dead?

or maybe we can say he was one of the victims of the Wrathgate? I know he was working on completing the preliminary quests for that the last time I saw him on Skafloc.

I know me and Rossignol have RP that would be somewhat dependent on how he disappeared ICly.

The thing is with such a treatment, I feel it needs to be handled with extreme tact because whatever treatment Skafloc receives, you can rest assured someone will believe it a disservice to his character.

I've spoken with a few people, and something I brought up as an idea was a thread to explain his disappearance ICly which varies person to person. Some people may have last saw him fighting valiantly at Wrath Gate, while others heard whispers of him surviving and going on that soul searching journey out in the wilds. The idea would be that everyone could remember him in the best possible light as they saw fit, and not claim dominion over his IC fate, one which his player would otherwise have had no say in.

A legend who's fate is only speculated in whispers... sounds fitting.

I decided to leave his absence as non-detailed as possible. As far as Saph is concerned, he's gone on to whatever his fate is. Beyond that, the exact details aren't that important.

One of the last times Nymare spoke with Skafloc, he was trying to "find himself". At one point, he'd been in Feralas, and from there he had been speculating moving to the Arathi Highlands next, he said.

She had seen him once or twice since then, at a village in the Borean Tundra, but she is assuming, if she doesn't see him, that he has moved on to another place in search of himself.

I do like Aquizit's suggestion, though, and.. honestly... I think that might be an awesome tribute for a Nether Legends thing.

Well, *I* heard he was last seen fighting off 30 magnataur at once!

Yeah, well I saw him flying next to Alexstrasza herself!

Does he have to die in the stories? Or live on to have more adventures that travelers tell tales of in taverns, and sailors pass on when they come in to port.

EDIT: woops, I missed Leo's post entirely.

I like this.

Very fitting.

Yes, I like Leoren's option. I have been thinking about this and had the question popped on me...I think a rumor mill of what happened to him, a general disappearance is fitting.

He doesn't have to die in any of the stories. Leoren for instance may have last seen him fighting against incredible odds at Wrath Gate before he lost sight of him. The way Leoren would have seen it play out, is he would have assumed death as he wasn't around after the event. That doesn't mean my story would actually have Leoren SEE the final blow against Skafloc, as it would go against what others might have in their stories. The whole purpose is to use the thread to send off Skafloc in the hearts and minds of the characters he interacted with. It can be as epic as sharing final moments with him at Wrath Gate, or as humble as merely seeing a silhouette familiar to his watching silently over the forests of Quel'Thalas.

We're not here to write Skafloc's final chapter. Only Rick could have done such a piece justice. We're here to write the final chapters our characters may have had with him, and cement in their hearts the legend of the Red Baron. Much in the same way Rick the player had in ours.

I would be more than happy to contribute if this became a NL sort of thing. I would love to write about some of the times him and Carmen spent out in the wild before he went missing.

I agree with the sentiments about leaving it open-ended.

It's sad but fitting that Xara will never win the tracking contest now.

More than fitting. I add in my own voice to the consensus.

The Baron was the first person whom I approached in-game to RP when I joined this community. I haven't been in-game since August ... but damn I miss him.

I totally like this idea.

I had always hoped that Skafloc would have a role in Taknar's revival, but Karryn's last memories of him will have to do.

It's still the most fitting, I think.

Poor Prea always treated him so rudely, despite his eternal kindness to her. It's a shame she'll probably only ever notice his absence from events.
