View Full Version : [Feedback] An alternative Death Knight.

Here I go again with another odd idea.
I wanted to make a Death Knight, as Necromancy and occult stuff has always appealed to me. However, I can't bring myself to Roleplay a normal Death Knight. The flood of emo Death Knight roleplayers has left a sour taste in my mouth. I mulled it over, came up with an alternative, and was wondering if this would be acceptable by most people.
He will be a Troll Shadow Hunter, who is empowered by the Loa god of Death, Mueh'Zala ( http://www.wowwiki.com/Mueh%27zala ). I could even go so far as to worship Hakkar himself, although if I took this it would be done in strict secrecy RP-wise. This fits appearance-wise, save for heavy armor, as Shadow Hunters also have glowing blue eyes.
And as for wearing heavy armor... I read on Wowwiki that Shadowhunters were former Headhunters. I read about Headhunters, and it said that the term basically means a troll who kills intruders and takes trophies, usually a head. There is no stopping a plate-wearing troll warrior from becoming a Loa-empowered Shadow Hunter.
And, of course, how do I explain being with the Knights of the Ebon Blade? That will be a totally OOC thing. I will treat it the exact same as when Arkaydos, my Druid, was given a quest to kill one of the Sons of Cenarius. I turn the RP off for a little bit.
This whole idea may bend a few RP rules, so I came here to ask if it was legit enough to be accepted by most of the RP community.

It seems like it would work. And I know what you mean. I couldn't stand the amounts of Evil Paladins, Angelic Warlocks, and Catgirls on my old server.

Sounds cool to me, although I don't recall shadow hunters have glowing Blue eyes. The commander of the outpost in Zangarmarsh is a shadow hunter, so I can always verify.

Aye, they do.

Don't trust Blizzard's half-assed models.
It's very possible.
I am curious how you plan to deal with the Rune blade... as the Troll Shadow Hunters weilded bows in WCIII.
Not a big deal though. When RPing, just bust out the bow first, and switch to your main hand.
A neat idea... I like it.

I like this idea, but you're going to get mistaken for a death knight as people will go "sees -x-'s pale skin and glowing eyes and pins him for a death knight" all the effin time.
But the idea itself is pretty frickin' sweet. Good luck.

DKs can't use ranged weapons, unless there was a massive change that no one informed me about.

Headhunter.
Uses melee weapons.
Doesn't mean he trained to use bows.

Shadow Hunters in WC 3 didn't use bows, they used some sort of glaive-like throwing weapon, or a giant throwing star. I've forgotten the specifics. Until WoW, no Trolls used any bow-like weapons, ever. All projectile weapons were thrown.

So, what I'm hearing is that the bow racial is total BS.

If you can make it believable, do it. It sounds cool. I have tons of respect for people who play their class differently than it was meant to and make it fit into lore.

I'm curious, what spec would best fit a faux-Shadow Hunter DK? Obviously it's a stretch of the imagination for a lot of abilities, it is a DK after all. But you could probably make something not unbelievable.
I think in the Unholy tree you would have to ignore the ghoul talents (I'm not sure if that irrevocably gimps you as Unholy, though), but Unholy Blight at the end of the tree seems pretty similar to Locust Swarm, which Rok'Han had in the Orc FT campaign. Frost wouldn't seem to fit in any form, unless you were RPing a Drakkari Shadow Hunter. Blood is the least "deathlike" of the trees, so that might work out. What are other people's opinions on this? I love the idea, making another hero class out of a hero class, and a Troll one at that. <grins>

Oh wow, I kinda stopped visiting this post and came back to find a lot more input.
Well, I planned on making Arkuru (That would be his name) a shadow hunter empowered by Hakkar. I would simply avoid going to Zul'gurub to fight, and I would keep this strictly secret in RP except with closer friends.
So, with that in mind, I'm quite sure I would go with blood. First off, Hakkar is the Blood God. But also, notice how many "Blood Drinker" enemy NPCs there are? They do damage and get some of it back as health, which resembles blood specc a bit.
Frost I could imagine if he was a Drakkari troll, being a shadow hunter of some kind of ice god. Unfortunately, no such Loa god exists in lore, not even in Drakkari culture. Frost would be difficult, but he could possibly worship the Loa god of Arctic Bears and get away with it.
Unholy is easier than frost. He could be empowered by one of the loa gods of, say, war? Trolls do all kinds of wicked voodoo rituals that I'm sure the priests of the light would call "Unholy". And I don't think having a Ghoul minion would be unheard of. After all, there are a few situations (Such as in Zul'farrak) where trolls have mummified their dead, and raised them to fight later.
