Been ruminating a bit about how to improve the PvP experience in WoW, and I came up with this gist of an idea. Was curious about others perspectives on the idea, if not precisely the implementation.
One thing I sorely miss from WoW is the feeling of faction differentation in PvP. This happened for a brief period of time during the initial foray into the honor system, with faction pvp sets, but has since long disappeared. Especially when both groups are in Arena gear, there's literally no difference between the two sides. I thought Warcraft had two factions, the Horde and the Alliance!
I've heard in games like WAR you get new skills as you level up, which... I believe you can do through PvP as well? I haven't researched it at all, so forgive my ignorance. Regardless, I think it would be cool to implement PvP classes, as it were, that were based on your original class and your faction. These PvP classes could be identical except for aesthetic purposes, to prevent excessive balance issues (Hell, Warcraft 2 was essentially identical between factions as far as gameplay went), and introduce new skills that were primarily PvP orientated, in the manner of an original unit from Warcraft. Warriors would become Grunts or Footmen, Hunters Spear Throwers or Riflemen, Priests... Priests, or Witch Doctors, and so on. I realize the difficulty in balancing this. The skills could be so useless as simply allowing the use of certain types of pvp gear which, when worn, would make one look like the unit in question. Perhaps Horde Hunters would get an ability to use all their abilities with throwing weapons (IT WOULD BE ABOUT DAMN TIME). It could all be aesthetically based, or, if it didn't upset game balance too much, people could actually gain skills that were unique. Perhaps some type of PvP experience bar would be implemented.
Or we could just put faction PvP sets back into the game. Either way, I'd like Blizzard to make me feel like I'm part of the Horde again!
