We wanted to remind everyone that Arena season 4 is coming to a close. During next Tuesday's maintenance on November 11th, all arena teams, as well as ratings, will be wiped and arena charter NPCs disabled. However, arena points will persist until the beginning of the next arena season, or until a player reaches level 71. Thus, Arena points will be rewarded for rated games played this week and players will be able to purchase Arena items that do not require a team or personal rating. Upon the close of Arena season 4, players at level 70 will continue to be able to play skirmish Arena matches against other level 70 opponents even after Wrath of the Lich King launches.

Arena season 5 is currently scheduled to begin on December 16th, and once that happens players who have reached level 80 will be able to compete in rated arena matches where they can gain arena points which can be used to purchase level 80 arena gear, as well as compete for end-of-season rewards. Players who remain at level 70 after Season 5 begins will only have access to play skirmish arena matches against other level 70 players. However, two new skirmish brackets will be made available (71-75, 76-80) for players who wish to hone their arena skills while leveling in Northrend.

I'm really looking forward to arena season 5.

My personal hope is that for the first little while everyone won't be coming down to counter-comps and gear level, since everything that works won't have been figured out by everyone in the game already.

Indeed, there's not a giant gear disparity where you'll run up against people who vastly outgear you - so more skill based.

Plus this'll be the first time I'm actually max level on the ground level (I was 56 when BC came out, hit 70 late) so I'm looking forward to being ahead instead of behind.

ROCK!

Looking forward to this immensely. At least until it becomes all about composition/gear again -.- and every victory in the tournaments becomes just about who follows the right strategy without messing it up. I really hope the rebalanced pvp system mixes it up and makes people viable against the cookie cutter's that make for boring pvp.

OMG YOU DIDN'T BLIND AT THE RIGHT SECOND AND THEY DID WE JUST LOST THE GAME IN 15.7 SECONDS!! OMG

But hey! We'll have a few weeks, right?

That was actually the case...

Until we ran into those damnable Warlock/Holy Paladin comps in the high 1800s with Brutal shoulders.

Didn't see it coming.

Yeah. And those annoying as hell dual Ret combos. They needed some nerfs, badly.

Arcane is for ninnies...Who like killing me with Slow and Barrage...

In any case! You were the only dual Ret team we had any problem with!. The rest just bubbled before we even got in combat and I ran like hell for 10 seconds. :p

Also, I am really excited to get to do some arena when I actually have some level of gear parity.

Blizzard needs to create an arena that is on the top of a gigantic pillar and only around 20 yards in diameter that makes me spawn right on the middle of it with the enemy team spawning around the outer edge.

On the topic of season 5, I'm very happy for two reasons.

First, craftable resil gear means that new players to PvP will have stepping stone into arenas that doesn't involve losing hundreds of hours in BGs just to get 300 resil.

Second, the new arena environments are incredibly fun, AND available now. Anyone up for some fun with a crappy Holy priest? ^_^

Dalaran Arena is full of win, though I'm not a huge fan of Org arena yet. Kinda bland, and fire? eh.

Prolly grow on me though. I started out hating Ruins of Lordaeron and loving Nagrand Arena, now it's the reverse. (FUCK PILLARS)

back in season 1 you saw some lvl 60 epic pvp armor and some lvl 70 pvp blues. Will we see the same? season 3/4 with lvl 80 pvp blues?

I hope its easier to dungeon farm for raiding to get my holy gear up while taking time to pvp for ret gear unlike now. I hear all arena gear is strickly arena only now. What are the BGs good for, epeen duels?

Guessing from the business model Blizzard's been using all this time, 'strictly' will likely become very leniently applied over time. I imagine as the seasons progress, it'll be the same routine we saw with BC. New gear will be released, and the old gear will made more commonly available via the BG grind.

You'd have to find me a Blizzard posting that confirms that Yehvon. As far as I know they've made it easier with a raid boss being available after your faction wins Wintersgrasp that drops 3 of the five arena set pieces. (doesn't drop shoulders and the next highest rating required piece).

This as well.

Savage, Hateful and Deadly will basically be the new 'tiers' of PvP gear for the foreseeable future seasons. If you were -just- to BG? You'd still be able to purchase up a set full set of Savage Gear without so much as owning an Arena team, which isn't bad from what I've heard.

There is also some crafted resilience gear that can be used, as it's easier and quicker to get than the rest.

No Adamantite/Cobalt/etc. for you!

Also, frost mage + frost DK might have nice synergy... maybe we should try it.

They used to have amazing synergy before they moved all the Frost DK techniques from frozen to Frost Fever. They only have hungering cold once a minute, and it's expensive.

That's not to say that the combo is not without merits for other reasons =D
