Sanctuary

Honor, Justice and Peace are all but forgotten concepts to most on Azeroth. Mindless bloodshed and violence have taken ahold nearly all establishments within the world.

Sanctuary raises its banner, for all those who believe we can step beyond what fate has dealt us. We challenge those who believe that war is the only recourse. Peace and Unity above all will bring the end to the murders. Sanctuary stares down the barrel of the gun, holding their ground to the ends of the earth and beyond.

We bring retribution to those who engender hatred and prejudice, be they Horde or Alliance.

((A Horde side guild focused on both roleplaying and PvP, Sanctuary wishes to bring fresh new concepts to this territory. We are based around a peacekeeping role, hoping that this will in fact lead to more defensive based PvP.))

How large/active is the guild?
At the moment we have around 15 active members; around 50 filling the roster.
We grow daily, and have bi-monthly guild meetings.

Is RP required? Is OOC allowed in guildchat, or do you have a separate channel for that?
RP is required of all members. Guildchat is strictly IC and we have a separate OOC channel. We have a roleplay channel that takes place in the Sanctuary's guild hall, /sanctuaryhall.

We also promote the use of the /rp Channel, which is a tavern set on the outskirts of Brill called the 'Rest Inn Peace'.

Do you have a level restriction?
Not at all.

Do you have a guild website?
http://tnsanctuary.forumdes.com

What is the back story for the guild (if any)?

Founded by some of the remaining Frostwolf Brotherhood after their guild's unfortunate end, we try to keep alive the teachings of our honored mentor Brakogar. Brakogar was last seen walking into the wastelands of Desolace, never to return. However we know that he watches over us still from the nether and guides us if need be.

Grisch himself decided to go the way of Brakogar. He named Vilmah as his successor, and since then, Sanctuary has continued to grow in strength and numbers.

The years have shown many trials and tribulations for the organization. Standing for peace amongst the Horde and the Alliance is not easy task, with so many that seek senseless blood shed over childish rivalries. Those who can set aside their differences and stand strong in a belief that a group of people share have always been welcome.

Is there an initiation process before you are tagged?
New members require a role playing interview with an officer. If their approval is met, they are welcomed to the guild as an initiate. An officer can, at any point, require a second interview by another officer or the guild leader for further approval.

There will be an OOC run down of the in-game rules for the guild and Rules of Engagement.

In order to gain in rank, they must fulfil a guild quest that will be decided by a commanding officer.

What would you say is the average level of the guild?
A complete mix across the board, however the core of most active members are now around L45-70. Regardless of level, everyone will be treated with the same respect as those of higher levels or of seniority.

How would you classify the guild in RP terms? ie. evil/good/neutral/chaotic/lawful/etc
Definitely lawful/good. Sanctuary are the peace keepers and the diplomats of war. Defenders of the cities when those seek to take away to sanctity of Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, Silvermoon and even Undercity. Sanctuary claims open treaties with those of the Alliance, who wish to partake in the fight for peace over bloodshed.

FAQs

Due to just about everyone asking these questions about Sanctuary, I've decided to write up an FAQ section. If anyone has any more questions, please PM me and I will include them.

Q. Does Sanctuary love the Alliance?

A. Sanctuary doesn't "love" the Alliance anymore than it "loves" the Fubolgs in Winterspring. Sanctuary believes that the Alliance is a force to be reckoned with, and that the differences between them and the Horde are about 99% superficial. Sanctuary does have many friends within the Alliance, however, which they consider proof that a common ground can be reached between the two factions.

Q. What does Sanctuary do to fulfil their goals?

A. Sanctuary regularly communicates with both the Horde and the Alliance. They are considered diplomats, in that while they are loyal to the Horde, theyuse their sources to both speak to the Alliance and use their resources for information that will benefit the Horde. Sanctuary also regularly raids so that they can raise their skill and their resources, which may be useful in their fights to protect.

Q. Does Sanctuary raid cities?

A. No. Sanctuary does not raid cities. Sanctuary does, however, send assassins into cities if they have the ability to kill selected targets without wounding civillians. This is considered a very important position.

Q. Does Sanctuary PVP?

A. Yes, often. Sanctuary takes part in the battlegrounds strictly out of their loyalty to the Horde. Their Alliance allies have knowledge of this. Sanctuary believes in honorable battle, and because those who enter the battlegrounds are warriors choosing to fight, this is not an issue. Sanctuary's greatest problem with raiding civillian locations is the fact that innocent people might be hurt during the crossfire.

Update - November 12th, '08

As of this date, Vilmah Bloodborne has been presumed dead. She sent word to Sanctuary, letting them know that Broxigan Lok'rosh is to be named the new Warboss. Here is the story leading to her presumed demise...

Newest additions and changes to the guild under Broxigan's leadership

The Long Walk! (http://tnsanctuary.forumdes.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=34)
The Long Walk consists of a recruit and an officer or the guild leader to take part in a walk for Justice, spreading hope from the humid docks of Booty Bay to the bowels of Undercity. Both parties are REQUIRED to walk from the southern most tip of the Eastern Kingdoms to the Forsaken capital through Alliance and Horde controlled lands alike. [More information in the link (http://tnsanctuary.forumdes.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=34) above.]

PVP Sparring Sessions!
Each week, Sanctuary will hold [holidays permitting] sparring sessions in the Stranglethorn Arena or the Nagrand Arena. This will be training to help build skills in the defense of the Horde controlled towns and villages!

Weekly Defense Duties!
Every Wednesday night, the guild leader will announce a zone in the world for the guild to watch. This means you are to watch this zone and come to the assistance of anyone who needs it. Keep an eye on World Defense and if the specific zone ticks 3 times in under ten minutes, head out there and investigate. This opens inter-guild opportunities to PVP and RP together!

Trials for Guild Ranks!
This portion of the guild is still in the works, but if a member wishes to rise in rank, they will need to speak with an officer or the guild leader and together, they will set up a test and trial for them! This has always been a part of Sanctuary and will be brought back with strength! More details to come.

Guild Meetings!
Everyone is required to be in attendance to the in character guild meetings that will be held either bi-weekly or weekly, to the guild leaders discretion [holidays permitting]!

And this is only the beginning!

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

Many amongst both Horde and Alliance believe Sanctuary to be a guild of pacifists; this is simply untrue. The following is made public so that all can understand the rules by which Sanctuary governs itself.

Though Sanctuary believes in a philosophy of Diplomacy First when dealing with members of the Alliance, there comes times when martial force must be used to protect the Horde and its members against violators of the Pact. Unlike most organizations, Sanctuary prides itself on following a strict series of rules that regulate combat operations. The following Rules of Engagement apply to all members of Sanctuary:

1) Unless commanded by the Warboss or High Inquisitor, the Alliance should only be engaged in defensive operations. Only the officers of Sanctuary have the power to override these rules, and when such events occur the reasoning behind the decision will be explained.

2) All members of Sanctuary possess the Right of Self-Defense. When attack is initiated by a member of the Alliance, retaliation in kind against the offender is automatically justified. Once they are dispatched, they are to be allowed the chance to continue on their way peacefully. If they continue to attempt attacks, permission is granted to pursue until the offender is driven away.

3) Free ability to attack is granted against any member of the Alliance who strikes against a Horde settlement. After the offending member is taken down, they are to be granted one chance to leave peacefully under their own power. Should they waive this right, permission is granted to pursue until the offender is driven out.

4) Free ability to attack is granted to defend other members of the Horde. This right must be tempered by judgment of the situation. If the Horde member was observed to be the offender who initiated the attack, he should be left to face whatever justice may come. If the combat is arrived upon after it has already begun, observing relative strength and numbers may provide insight into the situation. After the offender has recovered, they are allowed one chance to move on in peace; should they continue to press the attack, permission is granted to pursue until the offender is driven away.

5) Pursuit of targets should not continue into Alliance settlements, so as to avoid the potential for civilian casualties. Executioners are exempt from this rule, so long as they are able to use their abilities of stealth to engage the target without drawing others into the combat.

6) Locations authorized by Warchief Thrall as recognized militarized conflicts between Horde and Alliance interests are exempt from the Rules of Engagement. ((OOC: In other words, the rules of engagement apply only to World PvP. Battlegrounds, Arenas, and Wintergrasp are exempted, as are PvP-specific subzones in the world such as Haala or Venture Bay.))

We are the right hand of Thrall.

With the open palm, we extend offerings of peaceful relations to those of the Alliance. With the closed fist, we punish those who violate the Pacts.

We are ambassadors. We are warriors. As Thrall's example has shown, those of moral strength can be both.

We are the stubborn rock in the rushing river.

We hold our beliefs to be unshakable - no matter how loudly the drums of war may beat, there is always a path to peace.

Ours is a lonely road. We are called traitors by our own kind, and blindly attacked by those of the Alliance we would rather call friend. Still we endure - because if this world is ever to change then someone must forge the path, as even the smallest rock can alter the course of a mighty river.

We are Strength, and we are Honor.

We are not afraid to make the difficult choices. We do not only fight for our beliefs, but we fight in the honorable manner. Warriors of strength do not target farmers or those lesser trained. Warriors of honor do not slaughter innocent women and children.

Strength and Honor should be more than a greeting. It should be a philosophy of life.

We are Sanctuary.

Peace Through Resolution.

The OOC Stuff.

Sanctuary is one of the oldest RP guilds on the server, with a long history of participation in all facets of gameplay. We are now actively striving to revive and renew Sanctuary, but for that we need numbers.

Sanctuary accepts any race, class, or level. The only restriction to membership is a willingness to accept the Rules of Engagement as posted above, and a character who believes that peace should be the first option.

We understand that because of our guild's core beliefs, we will never be the largest guild on the server. We consider that a strength however, because we are a close and friendly group. There aren't several hundred members, most of whom you'll never meet or get to know.

As an RP guild, we organize regular meetings both within the guild itself and with non-members... Horde and Alliance. We also organize open RP celebrations or other events meant to unify the server community.

As a PvP guild, we operate defensively to protect Horde towns from attackers, especially those in leveling zones where the odds of a successful defense without intervention are low. Plans are also underway to engage in limited offensive actions - story-based PvP missions as part of our build-up to Cataclysm.

In PvE, we are currently running Heroic instances. If we gain enough membership, we are interested in casual raiding as well.

If you are interested in joining, please contact Saphiara, Bellsa, or Cabriel. If any of us are unavailable, any member of Sanctuary can provide information and possibly reach an officer.

We are also interested in forming relationships with other guilds, both Horde and Alliance. If you would be interested in arranging mutual ties and storylines, please contact Saphiara.

We had forgotten the old ways. The Horde was forged in the flames of war. History has proven that peace is impossible, that the Alliance refuses to grant us our place in the world.

Still, we were foolish enough to believe in a dream. For our beliefs, we suffered - willingly, because we thought it worth the pain.

War has returned to Azeroth. The Alliance is not only willing, but eager to destroy the Horde in revenge for the sins of a race corrupted and tricked by a common enemy. We seek redemption for our sins. They seek our deaths.

The Alliance has made their choice, and so must we make ours. To reach our goal of a lasting peace, we must make war so utterly horrible to wage that the very consideration of war brings a chill to the bones. War is a dirty and bloody affair, and we will remind the Alliance of just that.

We are Sanctuary. We are the Guardians of the Old Ways.

We are Sanctuary. We are the Guardians of the Old Ways.

We have failed in our goal. War has erupted once again, and both factions eagerly rush to the front. The war will not be fought on empty battlefields, but amongst the homes and citizens of both sides. Thousands of innocent lives will be lost.

The orcs were once a peaceful people. They knew the proper time to raise their axes, and the proper time to extend the hand of friendship. Those are the true Old Ways. Those are the ways the Alliance never knew, and the Horde has forgotten. We have not forgotten, however.

We will be the secret rebellion. We hold the dagger before us, and the olive branch hidden behind our backs. Our goal must change. No longer is peace possible under the circumstances. Our mission now is to protect the innocent, to keep war contained to the warriors.

We will be their Sanctuary, and we will wait for the day when peace will once again be possible.

OOC: Sanctuary is reforming and rebuilding for Cataclysm. Several changes are planned to bring a fresh face to one of the oldest guilds on the server.

A new storyline, where Sanctuary must balance the fine line between their public loyalty to the Horde and their secret work protecting Alliance civilians.
Removal of the old PvP rules, allowing members to participate freely in World PvP as they see fit.
Participation in both PvE and PvP
Opportunities for players of Goblins and the new class/race combinations to join an established and friendly casual guild.

A new website for the guild is under construction at http://sanctuary-tn.wowstead.com (http://sanctuary-tn.wowstead.com/). The site will be complete before the launch of Cataclysm.

Sanctuary is largely inactive at this time, but if interested in joining before Cataclysm arrives contact one of the following:
