I'm a bit confused by the false warchief, Rend Blackhand. I was under the impression that he was assasinated during the Second war (WCI)? Am I missing something? Or is this some other Blackhand, residing in Black Rock Spire?

This is Blackhand's impotent son.

This is explained in Thrall's palace during the questline beginning with "Warlord's Command."

Warchief Blackhand had two sons -- Rend and Maim. During the Second War, they controlled the Bleeding Hollow clan (which was mildly rebellious, but I don't think it rose up during the war).

I have no idea what happened to Maim, but I'm assuming Rend took control over the Blackrock Clan after Doomhammer's failure and the humans' victory at the end of the second war (Beyond the Dark Portal).

Manus wrote a bit about them here: http://tn.yzeens.com/modules.php?name=Journal&file=display&jid=264

And I'm fully aware I paint Dal'Render in a light of sympathy.

I just found this odd becuase according to the first WarCraft, Warchief Blackhand's name was Rend. Pretty sure at least. Think I still have the original manual somewhere...

Huh, I guess not. He is only referred to as War Chief Blackhand. I could have sworn he was called Rend Blackhand.

Here's the dilly-yo.

Like.. 99% of people don't get this.

The mystery of Rend is based off an item set in Diablo 2.

Bul'Kathos Sacred Charge
Bul'Kathos Tribal Guardian

http://www.d2data.net/item/set_bulkathos.htm

The WeaponSets are a reference to this Barbarian Item set from Diablo 2. So they just renamed them "Dal'Rend's"

http://www.thottbot.com/?set=41

Now, to uhh.. anthropologists, the Prefix "Dal" is of certain signifigance. We are led to believe that 'Dal' is an Orcish prefix like the suffix 'Jin' is in Zandali, to denote someone of Chieftain power; A supreme position of leadership, as Render (Whom we are known to be called Render from places around Redridge where his Blackrock Loyalists reside) believes himself to be (and is, in a way). As such, calling the Warchief "Dal'Thrall" would also be right, linguistically, instead of Warchief Thrall.

Or maybe calling it Dal Rend just sounds cooler than just calling it Rend's and also coicidentally fits the name theme from the diablo items as well.

Maybe it should be Darth Rend...

I'll go now.

Yeah there should be a new epic one hand sword in DM north from the chest called Dire Mauls Lightsword. Or something to that effect. It could be a little handle ala the argent avenger with red blade shooting out of both ends :p.
